Biblical Counseling Equipping Seminar

How (not what) to Change

Presented Spring 2015

After God and I (not to mention various people around me) have agreed on what we want to see changed in my life – how do I actually make it happen in practice? This seminar involves presentation and discussion of the vital insights God has given us in Romans 5-8 regarding “How (not what) to Change”. Romans is truly a gold mine of fascinating theological doctrine. But that is not the purpose for which Paul says he wrote it. He says the objective of his ministry in general and his letter to the Christians in Rome in particular is to bring about the “obedience of faith”. That is, his objective is to teach those who are already believers the principles and simple practical steps that apply to every possible specific issue, as we desire to change our lives from the walking death of what comes naturally to all of us, to powerfully living out the glorious and fruitful life that was demonstrated in Jesus and can be reproduced by His Spirit in us as well. We will use the book that Steve & Erica are publishing in installments as material to read and consider in preparation, then focus our study time together on the Biblical text itself that gives us God’s exact instructions through Paul. Equipping for Personal Growth,

Relationships, and Ministry to Others

Application-focused interactive Bible Study

Following the material of Parakaleo's Biblical Counseling Course, this in-depth Bible study teaches the Biblical basis for growth and change from the heart and life-filled, fruitful relationships with others through a combination of presentation and interactive discussion. Beginning in the early chapters of Genesis and the heart of Romans, we will discover the principles and simple practical steps that apply as we desire to change our lives from the walking death of what comes naturally to all of us, to powerfully living out the glorious and fruitful life that was demonstrated in Jesus and can be reproduced by His Spirit in us as well. We will go through the material with a flexible timetable over the next several years to facilitate the desires of students to dig in and engage. Students who have joined us over the years have grown tremendously in their walks with the Lord, gotten to know the Scriptures in depth and been equipped with life-filled Biblical wisdom for personal growth and for relationships (friendships, roommates, romantic relationships, family, work & career related…) as well as equipping to help others.

Led by Steve & Erica Lawry who have staffed the Biblical Counseling Ministry at Stanford for over 40 years.
